Shingo Gokan, founder of SG Group and proprietor of acclaimed bars like The SG Club in Tokyo and Sober Company in Shanghai, is opening his first Hong Kong venue this July. Located near historic sites like the Fringe Club and the Foreign Correspondent Club, the new bar, Gokan, emphasizes the concept of the five senses, incorporating taste elements, colors, and cooking methods into its offerings. In preparation for the 2024 Asia’s 50 Best Bars awards on July 16, Gokan is finalizing his new bar in Hong Kong. The venue features a vintage-American brick facade with subtle nods to Hong Kong’s traditional cafes in the front salon, while Japanese cultural elements are evident in the decor. The bar promises a high-caliber team, including Zaiyu Hasegawa from Tokyo’s two-Michelin-star Den and Tsukasa Uraguchi, formerly of Hong Kong’s two-Michelin-star Arbor. The bar will be led by Kaito Ohba and Morris Chang, previously of Osaka’s Bar Beso and Hong Kong’s Penicillin.
