Cheung Hing Coffee Shop: A Timeless Cha Chaan Teng in Happy Valley.
Stepping into Cheung Hing Coffee Shop is like traveling back to a golden era of Hong Kong’s dining culture. Established in 1951, this beloved cha chaan teng has served generations of Hongkongers and remains a cherished culinary landmark in Happy Valley. With its checkered floors, wooden booths, and retro fixtures, the space exudes nostalgia while the aroma of freshly baked pineapple buns fills the air.
Signature items such as egg tarts, pineapple buns, and Hong Kong-style milk tea have long been favorites among locals and celebrities alike. From 11:00 am, the café also offers decadent variations like Kaya Butter French Toast and Peanut Butter French Toast, which pair perfectly with a silky cup of milk tea. Beyond the baked goods, comforting plates of fried noodles and other cha chaan teng staples round out the experience.
Much of Cheung Hing’s charm lies in its history. Co-owner James Law has carefully preserved original details, from bench frames to timber window panels, some bearing five-digit phone numbers from decades past. These remnants stand as living proof of the coffee shop’s 70-year heritage, reminding diners that Cheung Hing is more than a place to eat—it is part of Hong Kong’s cultural memory.
