Chouchou: A Soulful French Brasserie Bringing Comfort to Wan Chai
Hong Kong is home to many refined French restaurants, often associated with meticulous fine dining and formal elegance. Chouchou, which opened on Ship Street in Wan Chai, offers a refreshing alternative by celebrating the comforting and convivial side of French cuisine. Set in a beautifully designed Art Nouveau-inspired space, this contemporary brasserie focuses on traditional home-style dishes elevated with refined technique and high-quality ingredients.
As the sister restaurant of Babette, Chouchou is quickly establishing itself as a neighbourhood favourite. Executive chef Cédric Tsia, formerly of three-Michelin-starred Amber and one-Michelin-starred Louise, presents a menu rooted in authentic French flavours without unnecessary formality. Starters include classics such as foie gras au torchon served with brioche and beef tartare crafted with premium Polmard beef, offering rich and familiar flavours that set the tone for the meal.
Designed to encourage sharing, the hearty mains highlight French culinary tradition. Signature dishes include the canard à l’orange, featuring roasted dry-aged duck glazed with citrus and spices, and the rustic traditional tourte Française filled with black truffle, comté cheese, Parisian ham, and potatoes wrapped in golden pastry. Desserts remain equally indulgent with comforting favourites such as crème caramel and tarte tatin paired with bourbon vanilla ice cream.
With a lively 70-seat dining room, cocktail bar, outdoor terrace, and private dining space, Chouchou delivers an inviting French dining experience centred on warmth and community.
