YŪJŌ: A Modern Izakaya Built on Friendship. In the heart of Wan Chai, YŪJŌ brings a fresh, modern take on izakaya culture, transforming the warmth of traditional Japanese pubs into a contemporary social retreat. Named after the Japanese word for “friendship,” it is designed as the neighbourhood’s new gathering place—where bold flavours, smoky skewers and an evolving sake selection bring people together.
The interior blends industrial minimalism with Japanese warmth. Raw concrete and metal lines set a sleek tone, softened by wood accents and gentle lighting. At the centre is the open robata grill, a glowing hearth where chefs cook over open flames, creating an intimate connection between kitchen and guests.
Executive Chef Wai, formerly of long-loved izakaya WaiWai / Isoko, leads the kitchen with deep expertise in seafood, sashimi and robata grilling. His menu champions “familiar comfort, unexpected joy,” bringing playful global touches to Japanese flavours. Highlights include the rich Ika Risotto Nero and indulgent Chicken Wings Stuffed with Foie Gras, each crafted to delight and spark conversation.
Warm, lively and full of character, YŪJŌ is a place made for lingering moments, shared stories and joyful escapes—an izakaya where friendship is truly at the heart of every experience.
