Hakata Yari Udon Brings Fukuoka’s Iconic Udon to Hong Kong. Hakata Yari Udon, one of Fukuoka’s best-known udon specialists, is making its international debut in Hong Kong. Operated by Japan’s Nishitetsu Group with a local franchise partner, the brand will open its first overseas branch at Mira Place in Tsim Sha Tsui on October 25.
While ramen often dominates Japan’s noodle scene abroad, udon is the true comfort staple in Fukuoka. Hakata Yari Udon currently operates three outlets in the region and is best recognised for its signature bowl topped with a striking 32-centimetre burdock root tempura, nicknamed the “spear”. Served in a light yet deeply savoury dashi broth, the thick, chewy udon noodles are designed to be both filling and soothing.
The Hong Kong menu will feature 19 dishes, including the classic Hakata Yari Udon, available with one or three burdock “spears”, as well as the popular White Curry Udon, where noodles are simmered in house-made curry and finished with a layer of creamy mashed potato. Several previously limited items, such as crunchy burdock root chips, also make a return.
All ingredients, including the udon noodles and broth, follow the same specifications as the Fukuoka originals, ensuring an authentic experience. Following Hong Kong, the brand plans further expansion across Asia, including China, Macau and Thailand.
