Golden Gip: Korean-Inspired Asian Comfort Food Lands in Central
After a successful pop-up in Sai Wan Ho, Korean-inspired eatery Golden Gip has found its permanent home on Wellington Street in Central. Founded by Japanese chef Shun Sato and led by former Censu head chef Nigel Kim, the restaurant serves bold, shareable Asian comfort food with a strong Korean flavour focus—think spicy, funky, fermented, and deeply satisfying.
The menu is designed for social dining, blending East and West with playful creativity. Highlights include hamachi with sesame and chili oil, burrata with “strange flavour” sauce and kombu-cured tomatoes, and the much-loved Drool Chicken, slow-cooked with Shaoxing wine and Sichuan pepper. Local classics get reworked too, like Kimchi Cheung Fun with XO sauce, and nostalgic HAHA Toast filled with prawn mousse and yuzu mayo.
Larger plates such as Mapo Tofu with crab and tteokbokki, doenjang-marinated grilled pork neck, and seafood udon with crispy noodles deliver big flavours meant for sharing. Drinks span wines, sake, soju, makgeolli and Asian-inspired cocktails. With neon lights, bold art, and a lively dai pai dong spirit, Golden Gip is fast becoming one of SOHO’s most energetic spots for modern Asian comfort food.
