Located in Hong Kong’s bustling Sheung Wan neighborhood, Yardbird is a modern izakaya specializing in yakitori, Japanese-style skewered chicken grilled over binchotan charcoal. Owned by Chef Matt Abergel and Lindsay Jang, Yardbird is a family-style, neighborhood restaurant known for its high-quality food, drinks, and exceptional service in a fun, relaxed environment. Yardbird is always busy, so it’s best to book online or be prepared to queue. The main attraction is the 20-plus types of yakitori skewers made from local ‘three-yellow’ chicken, using every part from beak to tail. Unique cuts like thyroid and ventricle, and crispy meatballs with tare and egg yolk, are particularly notable. Additionally, Yardbird boasts an extensive list of Japanese whisky.
