Where Hong Kong’s Neon Memories Glow Again
From 11 December 2025 to 31 March 2026, Luminous Neon invites visitors into a radiant celebration of Hong Kong’s iconic street lights and the craftsmanship that once defined its skyline. Long before LED screens dominated the city, glowing neon signs illuminated narrow streets and bustling intersections, shaping the visual identity and nightlife of post-war Hong Kong.
This nostalgic exhibition at DX Design Hub in Sham Shui Po brings together carefully restored heritage signs and newly commissioned works, creating a visual dialogue between past and present. Legendary pieces such as the Golden Phoenix Restaurant, Tai Ping Koon Restaurant, Nam Cheong Pawn Shop, and Ray-Ban–shaped Tai Cheong Eyeglasses sign return to the spotlight, their luminous curves reviving stories of commerce, neighbourhood life, and urban energy.
More than a display of objects, the exhibition rekindles emotional memories and reconnects visitors with a disappearing chapter of the city’s collective identity.
When Craft, Culture and Contemporary Design Converge
Endlessly photogenic yet deeply informative, Luminous Neon highlights the artistry behind glass bending, colour composition, and structural precision — skills mastered by generations of neon artisans. Informational displays reveal how each sign was engineered, restored, and preserved, offering rare insight into a fading craft that once powered Hong Kong’s visual language.
Alongside the revived classics, contemporary neon artists present bold two- and three-dimensional creations that push the medium into sculptural and experimental territory. These modern interpretations expand neon beyond advertising into emotional storytelling, spatial design, and artistic expression.
Together, heritage pieces and contemporary works create a glowing conversation across generations — reminding visitors that neon is not simply nostalgia, but a living design language still capable of evolution, wonder, and reinvention.
