Sugar King: A Havana-Inspired Bodeguita on Peel Street.
Tucked away on Peel Street, Sugar King is the latest creation from award-winning bartender John Nugent, the talent behind The Diplomat and Cardinal Point, alongside creative producer Angel Chiu. Inspired by the lively bodeguitas of Havana, this new neighbourhood spot blends charm, music, and craft cocktails in a space that feels both intimate and vibrant.
Inside, the atmosphere is deliberately casual – a couple of outdoor benches, standing room for mingling, and a playlist that keeps the energy high. Guests can expect a thoughtful mix of cocktails, fun wines, daily cold cuts, and what might just be Hong Kong’s best flan. It’s an unexpected yet perfect pairing with a daiquiri.
Speaking of daiquiris, they are the stars of the menu – reimagined in playful variations – though adventurous drinkers will also want to try the Café Chinita, a coffee-forward twist, or the savoury Panger Banger, which brings a bold kick. Sugar King is more than just a bar; it’s a spirited little corner of Havana brought to Peel Street.
