Step Into Hong Kong’s Legendary Crime Movie Universe
From 2 January 2026 onward, this immersive exhibition transforms the historic Old Yau Ma Tei Police Station into a cinematic playground inspired by Hong Kong’s iconic police and crime films. Entering through a retro-style cinema entrance, visitors are instantly transported into a world of flashing sirens, tense interrogations, undercover intrigue and high-stakes confrontations that once defined the city’s silver screen.
As you wander through meticulously recreated sets, familiar heroes and notorious villains seem to reappear from memory, allowing visitors to relive unforgettable scenes of gunfights, street chases and dramatic face-offs. The exhibition blurs the boundary between film and reality, turning spectators into active participants inside a living movie set.
Behind the Scenes of a Cult Film Legacy
At the heart of the experience lies the reimagined CID Office, designed by professional film art directors who faithfully recreate the visual language of classic Hong Kong crime cinema. From vintage wooden desks and symbolic décor of earlier decades to the sleek, high-tech aesthetics seen in later blockbusters, each space reveals how set design shaped the emotional tension and storytelling of the genre.
Visitors are invited to follow narrative clues, explore behind-the-scenes craftsmanship, and appreciate how creative limitations — such as the impossibility of filming inside real police stations — gave rise to some of cinema’s most imaginative environments. It’s a rare chance to step inside the visual DNA of Hong Kong film history and experience its gritty atmosphere from the inside out.
