Socio — A Neighbourhood Bar with a Purpose.
Tucked away in the heart of Soho, Socio is more than just another watering hole — it’s a community-driven bar redefining sustainability in Hong Kong’s cocktail scene. Founded by Manchester-born bartender Amir Javaid alongside Max Bajracharya, Socio takes its name from the Latin word for “community,” and it lives up to the name in every sense.
The concept is refreshingly simple yet inventive: repurpose surplus ingredients from nearby restaurants — think oyster shells, avocado seeds, coffee grounds, and spent stout — and transform them into imaginative cocktails that celebrate regional flavours. Each creation on the menu represents a different nation in Asia, pairing indigenous ingredients with local spirits to tell a story of culture and craft. From the Indonesian-inspired Gado, with spiced rum and tamarind syrup, to the Japanese Rice with wasabi gin and yuzu cacao, every drink is both a flavour journey and a conversation starter.
Socio is buzzing nightly, packed with cocktail lovers drawn to its rare finds like Sri Lankan rum, Chinese white wine, and Japanese absinthe. More than just a bar, it’s Amir’s mission to spotlight Asian terroir and reshape how Hong Kong experiences cocktails — local in ethos, regional in ambition, and global in impact.
