Social Room: Hong Kong’s Underground Pulse.
Hidden above the bustling Stanley Street market in Central, Social Room has become the beating heart of Hong Kong’s underground music scene since 2016. With its exposed-brick walls, a Funktion One sound system, and a loyal crowd of ravers, it has earned a reputation as the city’s unofficial home for techno, house, and experimental beats.
Founded by nightlife veteran Hem Gurung and techno pioneer Ocean Lam, the club is more than a party venue — it’s a cultural hub. By day, the space offers a cosy refuge with warm lighting and casual seating; by night, it transforms into a throbbing dance floor where basslines ripple through the crowd. With two conjoined spaces — a relaxed bar and an expansive dance floor — the venue balances intimacy with high energy.
Social Room has hosted legendary underground nights such as Wonton Bass, After Dark Sessions, and Time Loop, while also providing a platform for emerging DJs eager to test their craft. Its mission is simple: to give underground music back to the people. Unlike the glossy commercial clubs of Lan Kwai Fong, Social Room stands apart with an anti-EDM agenda and an unwavering commitment to diversity, creativity, and freedom of expression.
For anyone seeking the true sound of Hong Kong nightlife, Social Room remains an essential stop — raw, authentic, and unapologetically underground.
