Chez Trente — Central
Hidden in an unassuming alley near Soho, Chez Trente is a rare hybrid of jazz club, neighborhood bar and rotating art gallery, quietly cultivating one of Hong Kong’s most intimate creative communities. Owned by jazz drummer Joe Lung Yau-hang, the venue attracts local artists, musicians, writers and culturally curious regulars who come not for spectacle, but for genuine connection to music and art.
Live jazz fills the room from Tuesday to Saturday, creating a listening-focused environment where audiences are encouraged to stay present and engaged. Lung is less concerned with curating who performs than with welcoming guests who truly respect the music — believing that those who seek the place out are already invested in the experience. The result is a warm, attentive crowd and performances that feel personal rather than performative.
The name “Chez Trente,” meaning “At Thirty” in French, pays tribute to the historic “30 Houses” neighbourhood, known for its post-war tong lau architecture and early 20th-century urban layout. This sense of local heritage carries into the venue’s visual identity, where rotating exhibitions showcase emerging and established Hong Kong artists across painting, photography, illustration and mixed media. Complementing the cultural focus is a thoughtful drinks list featuring wines, cocktails and craft beers. At Chez Trente, art, music and community meet in a space that feels quietly timeless.
