GARDEN HILL: A CITY ESCAPE FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS Compact yet dynamic, Hong Kong offers remarkable urban vantage points — and Garden Hill is among its most rewarding. Located between Sham Shui Po and Shek Kip Mei, the modest hill takes its name from the nearby Garden Bakery factory at its base.
To visit, take Exit D2 at Sham Shui Po MTR Station and walk toward Shek Kip Mei Estate. Pass Mei Ho House, then follow the path behind the building to find the staircase leading uphill. The entire journey takes about 20 minutes.
At the summit, a broad platform opens onto sweeping city views. With no railings and overgrown edges, caution is essential. A telephoto lens helps exclude foreground weeds while capturing landmarks such as Stonecutters Bridge.
Below, Yen Chow Street glows against darker buildings, creating strong contrast. To balance exposure, use a graduated neutral density filter, bracket three exposures for HDR merging, or apply in-camera HDR.
Increasingly popular, Garden Hill fills quickly on weekends. Arrive early for prime positioning — particularly on the platform’s left side for a clearer view down Yen Chow Street.
