Bride’s Pool: Hong Kong’s Most Romantic Waterfall Escape
Hidden within the lush woodland of Plover Cove Country Park in the northeastern New Territories, Bride’s Pool is one of Hong Kong’s most picturesque waterfalls. Famous for its cascading white waters resembling a flowing wedding dress, the site offers a tranquil nature escape and countless photo opportunities. According to local legend, the pool was named after a bride who tragically fell into the waterfall when her sedan chair slipped during a storm on her wedding day.
The easy and scenic Bride’s Pool Nature Trail leads visitors through peaceful forest paths, accompanied by birdsong and flowing streams. Along the way, hikers encounter Mirror Pool, another charming waterfall, and the historic Bride’s Pool Stone Bridge, built in 1906, which provides one of the most photogenic viewpoints. The trail is short, under one kilometre, and suitable for families and casual walkers.
Wildlife lovers may also spot butterflies, dragonflies, and rare species like the Orange Awlet. Nearby barbecue sites and viewing decks allow visitors to relax and enjoy the scenery. Those seeking a longer outing can continue towards Tai Mei Tuk for waterfront walks or beach strolls.
How to get there: Take the MTR East Rail Line to Tai Po Market Station, then take green minibus 20R or bus 275R (Sundays and public holidays) to Bride’s Pool.
