High West: Hong Kong Island’s Most Beautiful Sunset Escape
If you’re searching for the most beautiful sunset on Hong Kong Island—without the crowds—High West is the answer. Tucked quietly beside Victoria Peak, this underrated summit offers sweeping sea-and-city views with a sense of calm rarely found so close to the urban core.
Standing at 494 metres above sea level, High West delivers a cinematic sunset. As the sun dips westward, warm red light washes across Victoria Harbour, silhouetting ferries and skyscrapers as the city slowly begins to glow. It’s a moment of stillness that feels worlds away from the buzz below.
Beyond its views, High West carries a quiet sense of history. Along the trail sits a World War II-era battery built between 1936 and 1941, now a hauntingly beautiful lookout and a reminder of Hong Kong’s layered past.
The hike itself is approachable for most walkers, especially via the Lung Fu Shan Morning Trail. Well-paved yet rewarding, it’s ideal for photographers, nature lovers, and anyone craving a slower pace than nearby Victoria Peak.
How to get there: Take the Island Line to HKU Station (Exit A2). Walk towards Graduate House, continue along University Drive to Hatton Road, and follow it uphill to the entrance of Lung Fu Shan Morning Trail. The walk takes about 40 minutes.
