From Hjem to Venner: A New Chapter in Nordic Calm

Sheung Wan welcomes a gentle return to Nordic simplicity with the arrival of Venner, a Scandinavian café and wine bar from the creators of Hjem. Located on Hollywood Road, this warm and thoughtful space pays homage to the quiet pleasures of home, friendship, and flavour.

By day, Venner serves a slow-paced all-day menu anchored in homemade Nordic baked goods, small-batch cakes, and great coffee. Highlights include the signature cinnamon and cardamom bun, as well as a satisfying breakfast plate layered with Jarlsberg cheese and house-made lingonberry jam. The atmosphere is relaxed and intimate—an intentional pause in the city’s buzz.

Come evening, the space subtly transforms into a casual wine bar, offering a curated selection of natural wines alongside Nordic-inspired small plates. Favourites include goat’s cheese cheesecake with a savoury twist and warm dates wrapped in prosciutto—perfect companions for a chilled glass.

Behind Venner are Elin Fu and Nelson Htoo of Common Abode, who first launched Hjem in 2021. Venner, meaning “friends” in Norwegian, marks a new chapter for the duo—more mature, more personal, and still deeply rooted in the warmth and ease of Scandinavian café culture.

With a minimalist design, soulful playlists, and a focus on good company and conversation, Venner is a reminder that sometimes, the quietest places say the most.
